iPad App - 50-50 Foundation

Charity organisation 50-50 Foundation needed an electronic mobile raffle ticket selling system deployed to 30+ iPad devices and running a live WiFi connection from within Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium during Reds and Broncos games.

Creative Intersection developed a number of inter-connected applications and systems to handle this task, including:

  • Dual (redundant) dedicated servers, each with the ability to independently run the game if the other fails
  • 30+ iPads connected via Bluetooth to mobile thermal printers and via WiFi to the servers
  • A custom-built road case used to house the servers and other equipment, and for storage of all devices in-between games
  • A custom-built iPad app, which enables all aspects of selling and reconciliation for each mobile/roaming seller
  • A custom-built server application, which allows for simple management of each draw and monitoring of performance of each seller in real-time

Some of the significant challenges that we had to overcome included dealing with a complex WiFi network topology where the iPads are regularly forced to disconnect from both Bluetooth and WiFi networks due to the massive number of radio transmitters being activated during the game (from punters' mobile phones).

The complex technical nature of this venture was expertly planned and carried out by our team of designers, developers, testers, and project managers within a 10 week timeframe.
